TEAM OPTIMIZATION PROGRAM

CREATING SUCCESSES FROM CONCERNS

Dr Amanda Brisebois MD, MMgmt (IMHL), Med, CEC, ACC (ICF)

WHO AM I?

Dr. Brisebois: Empowering Physicians for Professional Success : With over two decades of tireless dedication as a physician on the front lines, I have witnessed firsthand the challenges and changes that have impacted our profession. Today, the healthcare landscape demands a new approach—one that prioritizes physician autonomy, patient care, and effective conflict resolution. That’s where I come in.
Driven by my own experiences, I recognized the need for consistency, transparency, and support within the medical field. My journey into leadership began in 2014, culminating in leading a team of 350 physicians through the Covid pandemic. It was during this crisis that I realized the alarming lack of resources available to physicians facing conflict. Sleepless nights, strained relationships, and burnout became far too common.
Motivated to make a difference, I dedicated myself to extensive education in conflict resolution, leadership, and equity and inclusion. By summer 2022, I had honed my skills to become a respected advocate and teacher, empowering practitioners to turn conflict into professional success. I firmly believe that physicians should be equipped with the tools to love their careers once again, refocusing their energy on patient care.
Today, I utilize my influence in high-level leadership positions to champion the integration of physicians into our health systems. By deepening our understanding of complex systems, we can maximize our impact on patient care, reduce conflict in the work environment, and combat burnout.
As a certified Wellness and Executive Coach, a General Internal Medicine and Palliative Medicine Specialist, and an expert in conflict resolution, negotiation, mediation, equity, diversity, and inclusion, I bring a wealth of expertise to the table. Having served as the Medical Director for a prestigious 290-bed hospital, the Medical Director of the Covenant Palliative Care Institute, and an Associate Chief Medical Officer of Covenant Health, I possess a comprehensive understanding of the healthcare landscape.
Continuing to expand my knowledge, I am currently pursuing a Masters of International Health Leadership through McGill University, and I have trained at renowned institutions such as the Mayo Clinic, Berkeley, Oxford, UBC, and the Justice Institute of British Columbia. Through speaking engagements and published works, I have shared my insights and experiences with international audiences.
Let me guide you and your healthcare team towards success. Together, we can transform conflict into an opportunity for growth, creating happier, more efficient, and more effective healthcare teams. Trust Dr. Brisebois to empower you on your professional journey.

A Three Module Process to Support Physician Teams through Difficult Situations

Welcome to the first step in turning difficult situations at work into productive ones! This program is for physician teams who are having difficulties working through issues in the workplace. These issues are typically very complex, involve many stakeholders, and can take time to work through. There is typically a deep background, which will be difficult to navigate without support. I am here for you to work through this situation together, based on your unique team and individual needs!

I have found that it is critical that all stakeholders have a chance to be heard. In addition, everyone needs a chance to sit in front of each other to have neutral, and growth-oriented conversations. I have extensive training in facilitating these types of conversations, especially when they get difficult. This is why I am here to help!

Often, we can get stuck in the past, and it is difficult to dissect the current issues from feelings from our past experiences. Often, the details of the past are impossible to align. We all are from different backgrounds, have different experiences, values, and beliefs. Who we are impacts how we interpret a situation. It is fascinating that different perspectives from the same moment in time can seem vastly different. Often, it is near impossible to come to an agreement about what happened. Because of this, we are going to focus on the future, and how your team can work best together moving forward.

The Program consists of 3 Modules, each of which has a specific intent. Each module is composed of Sessions designed for specific outcomes for the module. You will receive more details for each session, when you receive notification of your meeting, and the Zoom link for the meeting. All individual meetings will be via Zoom (unless requested otherwise). All Module 2 meetings will be in person. Each module is allocated a specific amount of time, so you are aware of the investment that you are making for your future work environment! It is well worth it!

The Modules are:

Module 1: The Individuals
Module 2: The Team
Module 3: The Outcome: Moving Forward

Module one

The Individuals

THIS MODULE FOCUSES ON MEETING EACH INDIVIDUAL INVOLVED IN THE SITUATION AND DISCOVERING THEIR PERSPECTIVES

Session 1

Setting the Landscape. Meeting key stakeholders Involved in the situation and hearing their story.

Session 2

Starting the Transformational Roadmap. Creating a list of issues that the conflict has brought to each core stakeholder’s attention.

Session 3

Discovering Interests. Outline what is important to the team members (values and needs) with respect to the problems that are being faced within the situation.

Session 4

Completing the Roadmap. Stakeholders and their interests, goals, and Edges/Blind spots.
After Module 1, each team member will have worked to create a roadmap which provides their perspective of the situation. This perspective is just that, one view. The roadmaps will then be anonymously collated by Dr B to provide a way to focus on neutral conversations, goals, to hear others’ perspectives together as a team. The collated roadmap will be used in Module 2: The Team, through facilitated in-person meetings.
Module two

The Team

  • The team will work together to determine the priority issues to be addressed.
  • The team will complete a Transformational Roadmap for the prioritized issue.
  • Each component of the roadmap will be discussed: issues, interests, stakeholders, stakeholder perspectives, blind spots and gaps, and goals.
  • Throughout the process we will honour how the process is impacting the team members (social, psychosocial, spiritual, physical). Time constraints will be honoured, and individual supports provided as needed.
Module three

The Outcome – Moving Forward

  • This module focuses on if and how to bring the Transformational Map Forward
  • We will decide what supports the team may benefit from during the stakeholder meetings (if you decide to have any)
  • Only then will we brainstorm solutions for the issue.
  • With the potential solutions in hand, we will work on agreed upon solutions to trial, how to follow the success for the solutions, delineate clear goals, and have written documentation regarding next steps.
  • Throughout this module, we will continue to check in on how process is impacting team members (social, psychosocial, spiritual, physical). Supports will be provided as needed.
